CliC Sizing: How Does it Work?

CliC Sizing: How Does it Work?

We get this question a lot: how does CliC sizing work? CliCs are, by nature of their design, adjustable. Because of this feature, every frame we offer is sized to fit distinct size ranges rather than being individually sized based on exact measurements.

Before ordering your first pair of CliCs (or adding a new pair to your rotation), we encourage you to determine your size.

We offer a Size Comparison Chart that allows you to narrow down frames available in your size while providing valuable information such as headband type, frame width, and more.

Size Ranges, Explained

The first thing to know about CliCs is that every style fits a size range—but what does this mean? All CliC frames are all adjustable by design.

The adjustment happens at the temples, one notch at a time. When a CliC frame is fully extended, it is at the top of its size range, or its largest size. Similarly, when the temples are fully closed, it is at the bottom of the size range, or its smallest size. Any adjustment in between falls within the size range of the frame.

How Do I Find my Correct Size?

Determining your size is easy and requires only a few steps.

    1. Grab a flexible measuring tape or piece of string.
    2. Measure the circumference of your head, wrapping the tape or string beneath your occipital bone, and stop at the bridge of your nose where your glasses will sit, holding it snug.
    3. Refer to our Sizing Guide or watch this helpful video to find recommended styles based on your measurement, or view the chart below:

Once you know your size, you can explore CliC styles that represent the range your size falls into. You can even take our Frame Finder Quiz to narrow down frame styles based on your size range and lens needs, while also dialing in your frame color preferences.

How Should My CliCs Fit?

Your CliCs should feel secure and comfortable without being too tight. The temples should sit comfortably against the sides of your head, while the bridge should rest naturally on your nose.

Because CliCs are adjustable, you can fine-tune the fit one notch at a time until they feel secure without putting pressure on your head. You can also extend the temples further if you prefer your CliCs to sit lower on the bridge of your nose making it easier to look at the TV or continue a conversation.

Width Fit vs. Headband Length

As outlined above, the size ranges that CliC frames are labeled by are directly linked to the headband length. When you find a frame you like, you’ll notice on our website that each frame style is rated on Width Fit, or how the headband fits across varying head widths.

While the width is fixed for most of our frames amongst Narrow, Average, and Wide, our best-selling Original Expandable and Vintage Expandable readers provide an additional adjustability feature that allows you to extend the width.

In short: Your size range determines the length of the headband, while Width Fit determines how the frame sits across the width of your head.

What If I Have a Narrow or Wide Head?

If your head is narrow, you’ll want to explore sizes that have a Narrow Width Fit. Styles offered in the Narrow Width category include the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Classic.

You may have noticed that we offer an “XL” version of some of our best sellers. The Executive and the Ashbury, for example, are available in XL reader styles. For CliC Sunglasses, some styles available in XL include the Loft, the Aviator, and the Tram, to name a few.
